As summer makes its long awaited arrival, everyone will begin to pull out their best summer gear. Sandals, flip-flops, sun dresses, rompers and shorts will be the top clothing throughout the summer season, but some won’t be afraid to add a splash of fall or winter fashion to go along with their sassy summer wardrobes.

In Michigan it has been an unwritten fashion rule to wear certain attire only for a certain season or weather type.

No more.

Mixing seasons is a new look that can set an individual apart from the crowd. Instead of a sun dress and some funky flip flops, you might wear some rider boots or ankle length snow boots, such as Uggs, to add a mix to your outfit.

Sophomore Deasia Head is a big fan of wearing off-season attire. "It’s always fun to look fabulous, but it’s even better to look fabulous and to do it in a unique way," says Head.

Girls are not the only ones who can pull this look off. Guys can do it, as well. Instead of some cargo shorts and a T-shirt, to add a little bit of uniqueness to the look, guys can wear a logo sweatshirt with the shorts.

Because of Michigan’s location in reference to the equator and its varied weather, this mixed-season style can be worn year-round. There’s no longer a reason to retire seasonal clothes - just add them in as desired for a mixed salad effect to your wardrobe.

Mixing and matching off-season clothes is not only a great look but also very inexpensive. You don’t have to go from store to store trying to find the current trend. All you have to do is look in your closet and bring it all together.

Junior Kennedy Simmons is an avid fashionista who is always looking for new ways to add some variety to her look. Simmons says, "When it’s warm outside, but not too warm, I love to throw on a sun dress and cowboy boots. I think the look is really cute."

Simmons predicts that teenagers everywhere will soon be sporting the mix and match look.

Although mixing and matching is fun and very stylish, you have to do it in the right climate.

Sophomore Derek Williams mixes and matches his seasonal clothes quite often. He says, "Dressing like this is really cool . The only thing is to do it in the perfect climate - about 70 and sunny - comfortable weather."

Williams says older people who do not understand the look criticize him and other teens for wearing the wrong thing at the wrong time of year. But, it still doesn’t stop him from mixing it up.
