Roosevelt falls in opener to Canfield 42-21
Kent Roosevelt Junior Quarterback Tra Chapman (5) calls a play against Canfield - Andy Crooker

The opening game of the season pitted the Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders against non-conference foe the Canfield Cardinals. There were first-game jitters on both sides that led to defensive lapses, creating a seesaw game in the first half. After trading scores back and forth, the game went to halftime with Canfield leading 22-21.

Roosevelt received the kickoff to start the 3rd quarter and new quarterback Tra Chapman marched his team down field with an impressive 8 minute drive, deep into Cardinal territory. However, the Rough Riders came away empty handed as the drive stalled inside the Cardinals 25 yard line on a failed 4th down conversion. Canfield immediately turned around and responded with long scoring drive of their own, pushing their lead to 29-21. The Cardinals then put the icing on the cake with two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter, putting the game out of reach 42-21.

Roosevelt will look to rebound against Stow-Munroe Falls next Friday at Roosevelt Stadium.
