Writing is a tricky thing, but junior Emily Grevel is still enthusiastic about it.

As a staff writer for The Sailors' Log and a student in AP Language and Composition, Grevel is clearly interested in the subject of English.

“English has always been my favorite class. I like writing and reading, and I think it’s something I might want to do after I finish school.” Grevel said.

While also interested in sports medicine because of her connection to golf, Grevel is still thinking of pursuing English as a career.

“I’m kind of undecided about what I want to do,” Grevel said. “I’ve always liked English, and journalism holds a lot of interest for me too. With sports and journalism, I just know I want to be where the action is.”

In English, one of Grevel’s favorite quotes is from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein: “Although life may be a burden, I will still defend it.”

“That quote means that you can’t expect the world to revolve around you. So many teenagers are focused on themselves, and don’t pay attention to the outside world. It’s interesting to think that everyone has their own thoughts that nobody else can hear.” Grevel said.

Grevel hopes to continue succeeding in class and outside of class with her writing, which has gained recognition for her in her newspaper class.

Each week, snippets of writings will be read to the class, and Grevel’s have continuously been quoted.

Grevel said, “I like it when teachers recognize my writing in front of the class. Then I know for sure that I did well on the assignment, and I feel like I’ve accomplished something.”
